Not Sure Which Type Of Crane Is Best Suited To Your Job Site?

Pick and Carry Cranes

What is a pick and carry crane?

A pick and carry crane has the unique ability to lift loads and then move with them to a different location, eliminating the need for a stationary setup. Equipped with a telescopic boom, these cranes provide excellent reach and manoeuvrability, making them ideal for navigating through confined spaces and tight construction sites. Their compact design allows them to pick up loads, carry them to the desired location, and precisely place them with ease.

Benefits of hiring a pick and carry crane

Versatile

Pick and carry cranes are renowned for their versatility, making them a go-to choice for a wide range of construction tasks. Whether you’re lifting steel beams, moving construction materials, or navigating through tight spaces, these cranes deliver unparalleled flexibility in material handling.

Compact

Their compact design and advanced controls enable operators to manoeuvre with accuracy, ensuring that loads are placed exactly where needed. This precision not only boosts efficiency but also minimises the risk of accidents.

Cost Saving

Construction projects are time-sensitive endeavours, and pick and carry cranes are designed with this in mind. Their ability to move swiftly with loads in tow reduces downtime, enabling faster project progress. This speed translates to significant time and cost savings, a crucial advantage in today’s competitive construction industry.

Safe

Safety is a non-negotiable priority in construction. Pick and carry cranes contribute to a safer work environment by minimising manual handling risks and reducing the chances of accidents associated with traditional lifting methods. Advanced safety features and user-friendly controls make these cranes an asset for promoting a secure workplace.

When to use a pick and carry crane

Pick and carry cranes find extensive use in construction projects where quick and agile material handling is essential, particularly in scenarios where traditional stationary cranes may be impractical or cumbersome. Their adaptability makes them suitable for a variety of tasks, from lifting steel structures to transporting construction materials efficiently.

City Cranes

What is a city crane?

A city crane is a type of mobile crane that has been designed to operate at sites where there is limited access, without compromising on lift height and weight capabilities. As their name suggests, this makes them especially effective in cities, which often require comprehensive construction solutions despite space not being at a premium.

Unlike other forms of cranes, a city crane features only an operator cab, rather than an additional lorry front, allowing it to work in such compact areas, which is aided further thanks to the combination of its telescopic boom with an adjustable turning circle (this is especially useful when work is required between two buildings).

As for their lifting capabilities, they can typically lift loads of anywhere between 13 to 70 tonnes and can reach great heights while doing so.

Benefits of a city crane

Flexibility

These types of cranes offer abundant flexibility - it’s arguably their most advantageous benefit. In congested cities and other areas where construction sites may have heavily restricted access, a city crane offers a compact solution that is able to navigate narrow and tight spaces, all whilst being able to still perform the standard tasks you’d expect from a crane.

Productive

Leading on from the previous point, the combination of their effective manoeuvrability and lifting capabilities helps to enhance productivity. Not only do they require minimal set-up, but their ease and efficiency of use in otherwise difficult to operate environments ensures that work is carried out according to schedule.

Cost-effective

Rather than purchasing a large-scale crane that isn’t suitable for use in smaller projects or is only required for short durations, opting to hire a city crane to suit your requirements as and when needed is a much more cost-effective option for your business.

Uses of a city crane

Thanks to their convenience and versatility, city cranes can be used across various applications. These extends to:

  • City construction
  • Indoor lifting
  • Recycling facilities
  • Emptying waste containers
  • Transferring goods between buildings

Rough Terrain Cranes

What is a rough terrain crane?

Rough terrain cranes are a specialized type of crane designed for jobsites with difficult or uneven terrain. These cranes feature a single cab fixed on a rotating superstructure where a single operator can drive and operate the crane.

Rough terrain cranes have several characteristics to give them excellent off-road performance. Equipped with all-wheel drive on two axles and oversized tires, they have optimal maneuverability even on the most uneven terrain. Attached outriggers allow operators to stabilize the crane for heavy lifts. These capabilities make rough terrain cranes a versatile option in a variety of outdoor locations.

Benefits of hiring a rough terrain crane

  • Excellent off-road capabilities.
  • Greater maneuverability and control due to tight turning radius and larger tires.
  • Lower center of gravity.
  • Ability to move while lifting a load (pick and carry).
  • All-wheel drive steering and multiple-wheel steering modes depending on model.
  • Impressive lift power for its compact size

All Terrain Slew Cranes

What is an all-terrain crane?

An all-terrain crane combines the lifting capacity and performance of a traditional hydraulic crane with a high degree of manoeuvrability and the capacity to mobilise competently over a range of surfaces. Importantly, all-terrain cranes are roadworthy and can reach a respectable speed (often over 80kph). This is a major advantage as the crane can be swiftly and easily driven between sites. Once on-site, an all-terrain crane is adapted to cope with challenging terrain, including gravel and mud. It's highly manoeuvrable, enabling it to complete work on a gradient, in a confined space or where access is limited.

In addition to this versatility, an all-terrain crane is also capable of lifting a significant load (most all-terrain cranes can lift at least 100 tonnes, with options available that can lift 250, 300, 400 tonnes or more).

Benefits of an all-terrain crane

  • Combines the benefits of truck cranes and rough terrain cranes.
  • Features multiple drive axles.
  • Excellent off-road performance, including on sand, dirt, and other difficult terrain.
  • Wide range of lift capacities.
  • High manoeuvrability due to multi-axle steering.
  • Can move independently from site to site, with the ability to drive on highways and other high-speed roads, depending on local laws.
  • Ability to travel with attached equipment, such as a swing-away jib.
  • Have outriggers for added stability.
  • Multiple customization options with different attachments and crane configurations.
